Recruitment expert Rebecca Robins will explore how to attract, recruit and retain staff and get your whole team involved in the process. From a successful interview process to how to onboard new employees to set them up for success, this will be an essential talk for any jewellery retailer.

Rebecca has 18 years of recruitment experience working for global brands, including UGG Australia, Joules and Superdry. She has been responsible for building entire teams for flagship stores across Europe and implementing head office recruitment training.

Rebecca shares,

"I'm delighted to have been asked to speak at Congress on attracting, recruiting and retaining talent. Finding and retaining the right people for your business can be time-consuming and costly, and not everyone finds it an enjoyable experience. I will be coming armed with heaps of tips and tricks which you can adapt for your business to improve your recruitment process, that is cost-effective and make recruiting fun."

JBN Facilitator, Michael Donaldson, will also lead two interactive sessions to get attendees thinking about their business's practice.

Firstly, a Packaging Show and Tell will allow attendees to get hands-on with packaging products used by other retail jewellers. At the request of the JBN retailers, the 30-minute interactive 'Show and Tell' session will allow attendees to walk the room and see what other retail jewellers are doing with their packaging.

A limited number of packaging items from each retailer will be displayed on the tables along with an A4 information sheet detailing all you need to know, including their email address, should you wish to take the conversation further.

A packaging item list and blank information sheet will be circulated to all retail attendees before the Congress with full details and display instructions for this unique session.

Finally, Michael will deliver a session on Marketing Expenditure and Effectiveness – Retail Jewellers Survey.

In this session, Michael will share the headlines from the JBN retail jewellers Q2 business survey on Marketing Expenditure and Effectiveness, answering the questions every jewellery retailer should be asking themselves.

  • What percentage of sales turnover are you spending on marketing compared with other jewellers?
  • Are those with higher percentage spends doing better or worse than those with lower spends?
  • What marketing activities seem to work best, and what doesn't work well for jewellers?
  • Who are you targeting with your marketing activity?
  • Do you spend your marketing budget year-round, only at Christmas, or ad hoc?

Michael states,

"The JBN is a remarkable community of retail jewellers who share so much more than their knowledge, experience, and expertise - they are not only a pleasure to work with but a pleasure to know. Congress is a great opportunity for non-members to get to know this for themselves."

These sessions round out a packed day of keynote talks full of actionable advice retail jewellers can take back to their businesses.

Previously announced speakers include consumer marketing expert Heather Horton on attracting, recruiting and retaining customers. Heather will delve into retaining customers and building loyalty in a digital age.

Philip Rush, Founder and Chief Economist of Heteronomics, will deliver a State of the Nation presentation exploring the UK's economic outlook, including activity, inflation, and monetary policy.

JBN member, Mark Sandum, will share his retail story with attendees, revealing the highs and lows of owning a high street jewellers and outlining the processes implemented towards selling his business in April 2023.

Finally, the Director of the West Midlands Cyber Resilience Centre, Vanessa Eyles, will present a talk on Retail Cyber Resilience.
